Taiko-kai Taiko-kai

Stockholm Taiko Club was founded in 1992 after a visit by the prominent Taiko players Iwakichi Yamashita and Noriko Hashimoto from Kyoto, Japan. Since then the Taiko Club has had the privilege to invite them back to conduct workshops and give concerts throughout Sweden. The Taiko Club works mainly through the performing group Taiko Kai and occasionally arranges workshops. The main goal is to find a way to share the deep joy and energy that Taiko evokes and to convey a deeper understanding for Taiko as a musical expression and tradition.

Taiko Kai is the performing part of Stockholm Taiko Club. It consists of Swedish men and women trained by the Taiko players Iwakichi Yamashita and Noriko Hashimoto from Kyoto, Japan. Taiko Kai plays traditional Taiko and Fue (bamboo flute) music from different parts of Japan. The group has performed in various places over the years such as the Ethnographical and East Asian museum, the Asian and Malmoe festival and at official, private and cooperative arrangements such as Hasseludden Yasuragi and the Day of the Cherry Blossoms at Kungstradgarden.
